BCL Framework Research

Bias-Conscious Leadership (BCL) is an original research-led framework developed to help leaders recognise, address and transform the cognitive and structural biases that shape decision-making across organisations. Rooted in interdisciplinary evidence from behavioural science, organisational psychology and philosophy, the BCL framework offers a practical, ethical and reflective approach to leadership that prioritises fairness, clarity and accountability.

The ongoing research project supporting BCL explores how everyday and strategic decisions are shaped by unconscious patterns of thought, and how leaders can be equipped to challenge these through structured tools, guided reflection and inclusive methods. Drawing on field-based insights and tested interventions, the project aims to build a leadership culture that not only avoids harm, but actively contributes to more equitable and thoughtful systems.

This work forms part of a broader mission to rethink how leadership is taught, practised and measured — shifting away from reactive or compliance-driven approaches toward a more conscious, rigorous and human-centred model. The BCL framework is currently being tested and refined through applied research in both public and private sector environments, with further findings and resources to be published through Equilica.
